Your Postmaster: Sarah Anne Hughes
November 30, 2021
Equitable representation, final stretch, medical malpractice, cannabis review, work ruling, and a very controversial candy bill. Welcome to Tuesday.

Hey, it's Colin, your PA Post editor, and today is #GivingTuesday...

We're SO CLOSE to the halfway mark of our historic end-of-year fundraising goal of $70,000 in support of Spotlight PA's vital investigative journalism. Help us end November with a bang by making a gift now.

We need to raise $2,500 by the end of today to stay on track. As a bonus, all contributions will be DOUBLED.

And, beginning today, if you make a new sustaining gift of $15/month, you'll get this year's exclusive Pennsylvania tote bag, designed and printed locally.

We provide PA Post as a public service. If you value it, I'm asking you to help keep it going with a tax-deductible gift now. Your support means a lot to me personally and to our entire team.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

—Colin
POLITICAL POWER
NOTABLE / QUOTABLE

"I know that I have a purpose. I don’t know what it is yet. But it’s a purpose."

—Evelyn Langley of Germantown, one of more than 2,000 people shot in Philadelphia this year
IT'S GIVING TUESDAY!
We've been issued an urgent challenge: If we raise $70,000 by Dec. 31, we'll unlock $70,000 in matching gifts. And we're nearly halfway there!

Don't miss this chance to support Spotlight PA's vital investigative journalism and have your contribution DOUBLED. The future of Spotlight PA depends on your support, and we can't afford to lose this critical journalism.

Make a tax-deductible gift right now and help us keep it going.

DAILY RUNDOWN
FINAL STRETCH: The public could get its first peek at proposed political maps in the next two weeks, but Democrats and Republicans are still negotiating on exactly what those maps will look like, WHYY reports.

UNEQUAL TREATMENT: Black patients in Pennsylvania are bringing attention to implicit bias from a predominantly white community of medical professionals. “I felt my doctor dropped the ball on me a lot," Latisha Littles of Middletown told PennLive.

NEW REVIEW: The state Department of Health has ordered a review of all vaporized medical marijuana products that contain additional ingredients. A spokesperson told MJBizDaily the move is to ensure "patient safety," though the industry has strong objections.

RECONSIDER REQUEST: Montgomery County prosecutors are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate Bill Cosby's sexual assault conviction, the AP reports. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court threw out the conviction because of an immunity agreement.

ON THE JOB: The state Supreme Court ruled a traveling salesperson was on the clock when he was injured in a car crash leaving a work-sponsored happy hour, City Paper reports. “While work may not have been discussed ... the event still benefited employer by fostering relationships and improving morale," Justice Sallie Updyke Mundy wrote.
IN OTHER NEWS
CANDY CONTROVERSY: A Dauphin County lawmaker plans to introduce a bill that would make Hershey's Kisses the state's official candy. Wilbur Buds would like to have a word.

LITTLE ARTISTS: Please enjoy this video of students at George W. Nebinger Elementary in Philadelphia showing off the ornaments they made for the National Christmas Tree near the White House.

DOUBLE NOMS: The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 is nominated for two Grammy Awards. Listen to part of it on YouTube here.

VERY SUNNY: The New York Times profiles "It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia" creator Rob McElhenney, who grew up in South Philly and is responsible for the longest-running live-action sitcom in U.S. history.

BRAIN POWER: If you've turned to Pittsburgh-based Duolingo in an attempt to learn a new language, you may have been struck by just how weird some of the sentences are. Slate gets into the science behind that choice.
